Vascular laser vs. IPL

TWO DIFFERENT TOOLS FOR TWO DIFFERENT CONCERNS

IPL

  • A broad spectrum of light, filtered toward vascular targets

  • Best suited to  superficial thread veins

  • Larger spot size, faster for treating broad areas at once

  • Usually little to no downtime

  • Best for widespread superficial light redness or early-stage sun damage

VASCULAR LASER DERMA V

  • A single, focused wavelength per pass

  • Reaches deeper, thicker vessels that surface IPL light can't reach

  • Small, precise spot size — better for targeted vessels

  • Possible bruising on deeper vessels; redness usually settles within days

  • Best for resistant, deep, or larger vascular lesions and moderate to persistent redness

After care

WHAT TO EXPECT AS YOUR SKIN HEALS

FIRST 48 HOURS

Redness, mild swelling, possible bruising

Some redness or bruising is normal and can last from a few days up to two weeks depending on the vessel treated. Pat the area dry rather than rubbing it, and skip washcloths or scented products on the treated skin.

FIRST WEEK

Avoid blood thinners and irritation

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and alcohol where possible, as these can increase bruising. Skip makeup until the skin has settled, and avoid picking at any crusting that forms — apply a thin layer of Vaseline or a gentle healing ointment instead.

ONGOING

Daily sun protection

Sun exposure is the biggest risk to your results. Use SPF 30 or higher daily for at least a few months after treatment, and cover the area with a hat or clothing when you can — untreated sun exposure can cause uneven pigmentation.

LONGER TERM

Repeat sessions
Most vascular concerns respond over a course of treatments rather than a single session, and redness can return over time with sun exposure or ageing — so periodic touch-ups are common.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

A consultation comes first

Suitability depends on your skin type, the concern you'd like addressed, and your medical history. Dr. Nema reviews all of this before recommending Derma V or an alternative.
